Wayne has served as the director of this program since 1990 when it began as a two-week crisis referral center in Myrtle Beach. After 13 years, Wayne led the ministry through a relocation effort. We purchased 45 acres and a campus was built to house the present day program.
Wayne is a native of Alabama and earned his B. A. Degree from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, where he met Karen, and they were married in 1975. Karen has served as an Administrative Assistant to Wayne throughout their years in Teen Challenge. She is a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and excellent organizer in the ministry. Her attention to detail and determination to please God has made her a valuable asset. They have a son, who is in youth ministry and a daughter who works with Adult & Teen Challenge SC. They have four grandchildren. Wayne’s experience has been in youth ministry, serving as a senior pastor, starting a Christian school and day care are a few of his achievements. In the 1980’s, he worked in a clinical recovery program and also served as a high school principal in a Christian school before coming to Adult & Teen Challenge SC. He and his wife are now the fruit of their labor seeing many young men get a second chance at life.
Mandy works in the accounting office serves as the media/publicity person. She is vital to the smooth flow of information through the social media outlets and printed literature. Each month, Mandy is responsible for producing the newsletter and the printing of the bulk mailing. She is married to Will Anderson of Georgetown, SC. They have one daughter, Josie who is attending Cosmetology School and works part time at Adult & Teen Challenge of SC.
Esther is a student of the Word who has taken the role of teaching the students in our Induction Phase. She was raised in Horry County and has given her life to serving others. God blessed this organization when she joined our staff. She has had a very difficult couple of years in personal losses, but remains true to God's will. We love Ms. Esther
Pastor Hiliary is a Georgetown native who joined the Army serving in numerous positions of great honor around the world. His life experiences have uniquely prepared him to be a favorite teacher on campus as he guides the young men in their recovery. While in Tennessee, he tells of becoming familiar with Teen Challenge and had thoughts, back then, of being able to work in such a setting. Returning to Georgetown he began attending a church where Adult & Teen Challenge frequently attended when not out on ministry events. We believe God put us together to fulfill his dream AND to be an outstanding example of someone who has overcome many difficulties to rise to a position of leadership for such a time as this.
Brother Billy is a native of Starksville, Mississippi who entered the Adult & Teen Challenge Program as a student in Missouri and completed the year there. His story is an amazing testimony of how God can take a person from the jaws of death to a life of value. Billy came to us as an intern and advanced into a full staff position. He is a mentor to the men as he guides them through the daily schedule and keeps things on course each day. He is a valuable member of the team as a van driver and mentor each day. Since arriving in South Carolina, he has completed the requirements to receive his High School Diploma, has gotten his driver’s license restored and purchased an automobile. He has enrolled in a local college for welding so he can eventually step out into society as a TROPHY of GOD’s GRACE.
Josie is one who can rightfully claim that she grew up in ATC since she is the granddaughter of the Director. There are pictures of her as a tiny kid playing in the sandpile when the original buildings were being built. We are honored to have her helping keep student files in proper order and assisting in the accounting office, media platform and keeping "PAPA" straight while also attending cosmetology school. We love Josie and are so proud of her!
Ronda is from Nevada and moved to the Conway area 8 years ago with her husband, Dallas. They attend a local church where we got to know them while out doing ministry with Adult & Teen Challenge. We had a need for a Kitchen Manager/Cook and approached her about a temporary job until we could find someone. It turns out, she is that someone and we kept her! What a blessing she has become to everyone here. Proud she is on our team!
Josh is a native of Missouri and a graduate of the Adult & Teen Challenge program in Cape Girardeau, MO. After graduation, he desired to continue in the ministry and moved here as an intern for at least a six month commitment. Since being here, he has gained the trust and respect of the students and staff quickly and has fit right into our routine. It is a pleasure to have him travel with us as we take the message of HOPE & HELP to those we come in contact with each week. Josh's interest include working outside with the property and grounds and we already see the changes as more undergrowth is being cleared for our growth on campus.
Sadie is our office "guard dog" who can easily be bought off with anything from Chick-Fil-A. She is the eater of ALLLL the snacks and begs us to throw the ball with her all day long! She is a BALL OF FUN.
Our goal at Adult & Teen Challenge of South Carolina is to help each student achieve health, freedom from addiction, and skills for the future. We do this by providing Christian Discipleship, Educational Opportunities, and Work Skill Experience.
Throughout the years, studies have been conducted about the Adult & Teen Challenge USA process. Theses studies have found that the number one reason our students are still sober after leaving Adult & Teen Challenge is their faith in God. When asked what they attribute their success to, their faith and their family were the two most common answers.
As a Christian recovery program, we focus on the power of the Holy Spirit and the teachings of Christ to give our students a guiding light. Through Christ, our students are able to form a stronger connection to their faith, which makes a huge difference in their recovery. We provide a faith-based environment to encourage healing and a new life in Christ. We instill Biblical teachings into our daily routines and give our students the tools they need to empower themselves through God. We do this by providing daily chapel services, participating in outreach programs, and personal devotions.
Our goal is to help students become well-rounded people that are equipped for the future. If a student isn’t a high school graduate, we work with them to help them earn their GED. This is an important step in preparing them for a productive and healthy life after completing the Adult & Teen Challenge program. We also provide practical living classes. These classes include courses to teach financial and relational skills.
The third area we strive to develop in each student is in the area of work skills. Students participate in daily work detail as a part of the program. They not only learn a good and healthy work ethic, they are able to learn valuable work skills in the process. The program helps students develop personal discipline to help them maintain the positive momentum established in the Adult & Teen Challenge program.
