Starting January 2025, while remaining a financially independent facility, we joined forces with Adult & Teen Challenge in Sandhills, NC. ATC Sandhills has a network of ATC facilites, that utilizes the benefits of each other. There is a Director of Admissions, Kim, who oversees all applications to the facilites and places the students where their situation best fits their needs. This frees Pastor Wayne up tremendously and allows him to focus on other program needs. With this new intake process, we are operating under a 3 phase program. We now have access to a Crisis /Detox Facility (Phase 1) that will allow students quicker entry while they get their medical work completed and start to get an overall feel for the program. Once their medical work and admission paperwork is complete they are ready to enter the Induction Phase (Phase 2) of the program, they will be placed in one of our partnering facilities that best fits their needs. Our Georgetown location is one of the Induction facilites. The Induction Phase is 3-4 months where the students will have daily classroom studies, chapel services, chores, they will participate in church services and events booked for promotional/ministry oppurtunities. Upon successful completion of the Induction Phase the student will transfer to the Sandhills Adult & Teen Challenge Training Center for the Training Phase (Phase 3) of the program, located in Southern Pines, NC. While enrolled in the third and final phase of the program, students will continue group therapy sessions and complete the Breaking Free, Preparing for Success, and Intimacy with a Purpose series. They will also meet with their counselors regularly and begin working on an exit strategy to ensure success. During the optional Intern phase, opportunities to enroll in Sandhills Community College (tuition free) and earn credits toward a certificate or degree are possible. Those without a high school diploma will be automatically enrolled into our GED program. Phase III is about preparing for life outside of Adult & Teen Challenge.
Pastor Wayne has served as the director of this program since 1990 when it began as a
two-week crisis referral center in Myrtle Beach. After 13 years, Wayne led the ministry through a relocation effort. We purchased 45 acres and a campus was built to house the present day program.Wayne is a native of Alabama and earned his B. A. Degree from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, where he met Karen, and they were married in 1975. Karen served as an Administrative Assistant to Wayne throughout their years in Teen Challenge and as of January of 2025 she is officially retired. After 30+ years of Teen Challenge office work, she is learning how to navigate a new way of daily living. She is a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and was an excellent organizer in the ministry. Her attention to detail and determination to please God made her a valuable asset. They have a son, who is in youth ministry and a daughter who works with Adult & Teen Challenge SC. They have four grandchildren. Wayne’s experience has been in youth ministry, serving as a senior pastor, starting a Christian school and day care are a few of his achievements. In the 1980’s, he worked in a clinical recovery program and also served as a high school principal in a Christian school before coming to Adult & Teen Challenge SC. He and his wife are now enjoying the fruit of their labor seeing many young men get a second chance at life.
Mandy works for ATCSC being the local connection with our NC facilites working with accounting, bookkeeping, our monthly newsletter and social media. She is married to Will Anderson of Georgetown, SC. They have one daughter, Josie, who is a cosmetologist in Pawleys Island, SC.
Mrs. Esther is a student of the Word who has taken the role of teaching the students in our Induction Phase. She was raised in Horry County and has given her life to serving others. God blessed this organization when she joined our staff. She has had a very difficult couple of years in personal losses, but remains true to God's will. We love Mrs. Esther
Pastor Hiliary is a Georgetown native who joined the Army serving in numerous positions of great honor around the world. His life experiences have uniquely prepared him to be a favorite teacher on campus as he guides the young men in their recovery. While in Tennessee, he tells of becoming familiar with Teen Challenge and had thoughts, back then, of being able to work in such a setting. Returning to Georgetown he began attending a church where Adult & Teen Challenge frequently attended when not out on ministry events. We believe God put us together to fulfill his dream AND to be an outstanding example of someone who has overcome many difficulties to rise to a position of leadership for such a time as this.
Ronda is from Nevada and moved to the Conway area 8 years ago with her husband, Dallas. They attend a local church where we got to know them while out doing ministry with Adult & Teen Challenge. We had a need for a Kitchen Manager/Cook and approached her about a temporary job until we could find someone permanent. It turns out, she was that someone and we kept her! What a blessing she has become to everyone here. Proud she is on our team!
Sadie is our office "guard dog" who can easily be bought off with anything from Chick-Fil-A. She is the eater of ALLLL the snacks and begs us to throw the ball with her all day long! She is a BALL OF FUN.
Our goal at Adult & Teen Challenge of South Carolina is to help each student achieve health, freedom from addiction, and skills for the future. We do this by providing Christian Discipleship, Educational Opportunities, and Work Skill Experience.
Throughout the years, studies have been conducted about the Adult & Teen Challenge USA process. Theses studies have found that the number one reason our students are still sober after leaving Adult & Teen Challenge is their faith in God. When asked what they attribute their success to, their faith and their family were the two most common answers.
As a Christian recovery program, we focus on the power of the Holy Spirit and the teachings of Christ to give our students a guiding light. Through Christ, our students are able to form a stronger connection to their faith, which makes a huge difference in their recovery. We provide a faith-based environment to encourage healing and a new life in Christ. We instill Biblical teachings into our daily routines and give our students the tools they need to empower themselves through God. We do this by providing daily chapel services, participating in outreach programs, and personal devotions.
Once the students reach 3rd Phase, educational opputunites will be available. Through Sandhills ATC partnership with Sandhills Community College, and local employers, all students receive: Career Readiness Classes, GED (if needed), and Life Skills Training (Agriculture, Commercial Landscaping, Event Operations, Carpentry Shop)
Another area we strive to develop in each student is in the area of work skills. Students participate in daily work detail as a part of the program. They not only learn a good and healthy work ethic, they are able to learn valuable work skills in the process. The program helps students develop personal discipline to help them maintain the positive momentum established in the Adult & Teen Challenge program.
